Knee Pain

knee pain

Knee pain is a common condition that affects people of all ages.  Two common contributors to knee pain are..

  1. Poor foot posture can come from flat feet or issues with the arches of your feet.
  2. Poor foot biomechanics, which addresses the way you walk.  This is about how the lower limbs move and are in alignment (or out of alignment) while walking.

Three common knee ailments come from pain from poor foot posture or biomechanics...

  1. Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome is where the cartilage under the kneecap is damaged.  This is a common source of knee pain in women athletes and young adults.
  2. Patella Tendinopathy is a knee injury to the patellar tendon, which connects the kneecap to the shin bone.  This tendon helps the muscles extend the knee.  This is often called "Jumpers Knee" because it is commonly found in athletes who play jumping sports such as basketball and volleyball.
  3. Arthritis of the knee is a debilitating form of arthritis due to the inflammation in this joint.

Custom orthotics are often beneficial in treating knee pain because they correct the source of the issue.   If you have persistent knee pain, contact our team to book a session with one of our Podiatrists.  They know the checks and the tests to run to see if we can help your knee pain.
