Sever’s Disease
Sever's disease (also known as Calcaneal Apophysitis) is one of the most common conditions we treat in boys aged 9-15 and girls aged 8-14 who experience heel pain. At this age, kids are experiencing substantial growth spurts.
Children's calf muscles can become tight, pulling on the growth plate in the heel. This pulling can cause an injury to the growth plate and lead to pain. Children usually feel pain under and on the sides of their heels, which may radiate up the Achilles tendon.
During these growth spurts, the pain can last a few months or a few years. A Sarah Sweeney Podiatrist can quickly diagnose and treat Sever's disease; early intervention is recommended.
